Wrentham Town Clerk Receives Certification From Statewide Organization

Town Clerk Cynthia Thompson Now One of 123 Certified Town Clerks in Massachusetts

WRENTHAM — Town Administrator Kevin Sweet is pleased to announce that Wrentham Town Clerk Cynthia Thompson has been certified by the Massachusetts Town Clerks’ Association (MTCA).

Thompson learned of the prestigious designation of being named a Certified Massachusetts Municipal Clerk last week. The classification makes Thompson one of only 123 certified town clerks in the state. There are 301 town clerks in Massachusetts.

“This designation helps to further exemplify what we here at Wrentham Town Hall already know, that Cindy is one of the best town clerk’s in the state,” Town Administrator Kevin Sweet said. “We are certainly lucky to have her and count her as one of our assets here in town.”

In order to attain certification, Thompson attended educational courses and had to pass a 250-question aptitude test measuring her knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws in categories such as elections and election procedures, vital records, campaign and political finance, town meetings, ethics and public records.

Thompson has been Wrentham’s elected town clerk for three years. She served as the executive assistant to the Wrentham Town Administrator from 2005-2015 and was the administrative assistant to the Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Board in town from 2002-2005.

Thompson also currently serves on the Technology Committee and General By-Law Review Committee for the town.

In addition to her certification with the MTCA, she is a member of the Tri-County Clerks Association and the New England Association of City & Town Clerks.

She is working to continue her professional development through courses sponsored by the MTCA and the Secretary of the Commonwealth Elections Division.

“This certification is the result of a lot of hard work and dedication and I thank everyone in town who has shown me such fantastic support and guidance in my three years as Town Clerk,” Thompson said.
